Traditional Money Bank" in Vanuatu
Vanuatu established the Traditional Money Bank in Vanuatu Project (TMVB) in 2002; while the nation’s largest financial network, the Vanuatu Credit Union, also established an exchange mechanism for the traditional currency and cash with the Pig Bank Project, as pigs are the most prevalent representation of traditional wealth. In addition to pigs, woven mats and Chinese yams also function as regional currencies. A scribe in the pig bank notes new deposits and withdrawls in a room of hanging pig tusks.
