麥都思 Walter Henry Medhurst

A sinologist and missionary from the London Society of England, Walter Henry Medhurst was sent to Malaya, Batavia and other places to learn Chinese, Malay and other Asian languages. He conducted in-depth research of Chinese history, society, and culture, and was employed by the British colonial government in North Borneo as a immigration commissioner based in China to attract Chinese immigrants to invest in Borneo.
