Although going to work and class, watching shows and playing basketball, as well as domestic travel have continued about the same as usual, in fact, there have been many changes to our lives made gradually. So, we are used to the new daily routine: taking one’s body temperature, frequently washing hands and wearing a mask as basic personal practice.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>In our new life of pandemic prevention, masks have, in particular, become our other face. This unit showcases masks, past and present: from the imported masks dating back to the Japanese colonial period to being the key to pandemic prevention in 2020, masks have become a daily aspect of life and topic of conversation in Taiwan, as well as a gift to help international friends tide over difficulties. Masks are not just small items that have become essentials to be carried with us at all times, but rather colorful designs that have taken on a new fashion of their own. We’ve invited Mr. Lihang Chen to tell the story of the use of masks in Taiwan during the Japanese colonial era. Many types of collector’s masks will be shown as well as touching mask-related netizen stories.<br><br>In addition to the national mask team becoming the light of Taiwan, the achievements of epidemic prevention brought about by national unity and epidemic prevention have received international attention and positive approval. After the events of 2020, Taiwan has developed a new global image, and we have seen a new Taiwan's resilience and creativity.<br></div><br><u><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http://openmuseum.tw/muse/exhibition/dfda4ef19386b4bdaa22523e960a2505\">-View Online Exhibit-</a></u><br>", "weight": 2 }, "theme-d4qrj8tkab": { "id": "theme-d4qrj8tkab", "type": "theme", "sortable": true, "primaryObj": { "oid": "c0fed8342163eb469d4657207f0abeae", "fileType": "image", "fileURI": "https://openmuseum.tw/files/muse_portal/muse_styles/w1920/mcode/b975cfd33abd1d9510fd3847c57eac0a.jpg?itok=pYV2_y3k", "level": "primary", "title": "聯合國防疫文宣06/各國國旗口罩", "desc": "", "thumbURI": "https://openmuseum.tw/files/muse_portal/muse_styles/square_thumbnail_100/mcode/b975cfd33abd1d9510fd3847c57eac0a.jpg?itok=1rkeSqlA", "thumbMediumURI": "https://openmuseum.tw/files/muse_portal/muse_styles/thumbnail_medium/mcode/b975cfd33abd1d9510fd3847c57eac0a.jpg?itok=-Qwpeud-", "thumbBigURI": "https://openmuseum.tw/files/muse_portal/muse_styles/thumbnail_big/mcode/b975cfd33abd1d9510fd3847c57eac0a.jpg?itok=so3G0h0b", "mfid": "b975cfd33abd1d9510fd3847c57eac0a", "fileCreator": "", "rights": "United Nations", "rightsLogo": "https://openmuseum.tw/files/muse_portal/styles/square_thumbnail_100/public/default_rights/memder_non-04.png?itok=gq-PTcKL", "fileLicence": "著作權利所有-可用於本站提供的服務", "fileOversize": false, "thumb1920": "https://openmuseum.tw/files/muse_portal/muse_styles/w1920/mcode/b975cfd33abd1d9510fd3847c57eac0a.jpg?itok=pYV2_y3k" }, "title": "Pandemic Cultures in Places", "desc": "<div>Whether it is global cultures or pandemic cultures, an anthropologist’s task is to view the extraordinary and unique from the usual and mundane. In the early stages of the pandemic, Japan faced criticism due to the lack of medical masks and the Abe government’s distribution of cloth masks. However, the Japanese people - in order to make masks more accessible - used their handicraft skills to make masks from colorful cloth for their social network. When the economy became sluggish due to the pandemic, many islanders in Oceania returned to their homes in the countryside, producing local food, and taking care of their families. In East Africa, Dr. Derek Sheridan shared about the unique anti-pandemic culture there: delivering public health messages through music, MV and drama, reminding the public on the importance of prevention in order to effectively control the epidemic.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>So even if you can’t go abroad, let's travel online and take a look at the global pandemic prevention cultures.&nbsp;</div><span><br><u><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http://openmuseum.tw/muse/exhibition/90e6e83895d101975a5c146eb43ffe9a\">-View Online Exhibit-</a></u><br></span><br>", "weight": 3 }, "theme-ncyh3a3fdz": { "id": "theme-ncyh3a3fdz", "type": "theme", "sortable": true, "primaryObj": { "oid": "9921fff6d748fb627e9796c8ddc6b953", "fileType": "image", "fileURI": "https://openmuseum.tw/files/muse_portal/muse_styles/w1920/mcode/67032f5ae65dfd592e72b4b521d928a5.jpg?itok=_rQ24dUh", "level": "primary", "title": "Corona-Graffiti am Donaukanal, Wien - Bild 2", "desc": "", "thumbURI": "https://openmuseum.tw/files/muse_portal/muse_styles/square_thumbnail_100/mcode/67032f5ae65dfd592e72b4b521d928a5.jpg?itok=vA7WM8uE", "thumbMediumURI": "https://openmuseum.tw/files/muse_portal/muse_styles/thumbnail_medium/mcode/67032f5ae65dfd592e72b4b521d928a5.jpg?itok=1NfakRFI", "thumbBigURI": "https://openmuseum.tw/files/muse_portal/muse_styles/thumbnail_big/mcode/67032f5ae65dfd592e72b4b521d928a5.jpg?itok=d47omnd2", "mfid": "67032f5ae65dfd592e72b4b521d928a5", "fileCreator": "", "rights": "Anna Saini", "rightsLogo": "https://openmuseum.tw/files/muse_portal/styles/square_thumbnail_100/public/default_rights/memder_non-05.png?itok=0rVBS4da", "fileLicence": "創用CC 姓名標示-相同方式分享", "fileOversize": false, "thumb1920": "https://openmuseum.tw/files/muse_portal/muse_styles/w1920/mcode/67032f5ae65dfd592e72b4b521d928a5.jpg?itok=_rQ24dUh" }, "title": "Pandemic: A State of Mind", "desc": "<div>The\nsuddenness of the pandemic as well as it’s global, long-lasting and invisible nature\nhas not only affected everyone's lives, but also had a huge psychological\nimpact.<br></div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>In the midst of a pandemic, there are many disputes and conflicts, false information and distrust as well as panic buying and hoarding, all of which reflect people's unsettled and anxious feelings.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>In this unit, three professors, Jen-Ho Chang, Wen Liu, and Shaw-wu Rong, introduce interesting psychological and behavioral analyses of the epidemic. It is always a high point of the year and packed with throngs of visitors; however, due to the pandemic, in 2020 it was mainly conducted online. The Institute of Ethnology held its lecture series with a total of four keynote speeches related to the epidemic. Due to social distance considerations, each session had a maximum capacity of 40 people.<br></div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>The Museum of the Institute of Ethnology has a special plan to transform these Open House short lectures to Open Museum exhibitions, so that the researcher's interesting analysis can be presented in another form. This ‘translation’ of knowledge from traditional speeches to online presentations is a new experiment for us. The curatorial team has worked intensively in just a short period of time; their work includes restructuring, data reading, arranging selected pieces, film editing, writing descriptions and getting copyright authorization.
